Palácio da Bolsa

The Palácio da Bolsa, headquarters and property of the Porto Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is one of the main symbols and tourist attraction sites of both the city and the region, receiving over 200,000 visitors every year. Venue for most State receptions in the north of Portugal, it has hosted government officials, high dignitaries and the main world statesmen of the 20th century.
Along three generations great names in architecture, painting, sculpture and the decorative arts contributed to the creation of a unique heritage at the Palácio da Bolsa, a true jewel of the neo-classical style of the 19th century. Chief among them were architects Joaquim da Costa Lima and Marques da Silva, painters António Ramalho, Veloso Salgado, António Carneiro and Henrique Medina and sculptors Soares dos Reis and Teixeira Lopes.
A National Monument, located in the area classified by Unesco as a World Heritage Site, the Palácio da Bolsa is a living and active space, open to the community, where continuity is given to the purposes and motives behind its building: to be a meeting point, a guest hall where views are exchanged, business promoted, events take place, opinion is formed, where decisions are influenced or where one simply socialises.
As a Cultural and Conference Centre this monument was a founder-member of the "Historic Conference Centres of Europe", European Network of Conference Centres in monuments or historical sites.
